We loved Photo by @stephenwilkes: A photographic study of the conflicted union of oil and water, taken during the Deepwater horizon oil spill. Since taking this photograph in 2010, many have told me it looks to them like an abstract painting, I can’t disagree–personally it reminds me of an ancient Japanese winter landscape, which are often described as beautifully serene. I find that rather poetic—that in the horrible tragedy of one of the worst oil spills in history, exists a subtle beauty.

This image is part of my newest series, “Remnants”. A collection of images from different series I have done over the years, all of which have one thing in common—their representation of our impact on the earth and it’s creatures. Forever changed, and never gone. These are the remnants of our lives and choices.
